5 Ways to Enjoy a Rainy Day

Updated: Jul 25, 2020

What a wonderful Monday! Though it may seem odd, I am enjoying my rainy Monday to the fullest and I hope you are too! Today my husband and I both have off work, which has allowed us to extend our weekend and enjoy some extra R&R. I woke up late, made cheddar scones, explored town with my sailor, and now write with a cat on my lap. We have certainly enjoyed our day, so I hope you enjoy this list of activities too!

1. Bake My friend Lynn makes amazing scones and has been kind enough to share her recipes with me. Today I made her cayenne cheddar scones, and they were outstanding. I used King Arthur's Gluten-Free Measure for Measure flour, and they turned out wonderfully! Go wild and foster a hygge vibe in your home today by blessing your family or roommates with a homemade treat. Anyone would be extremely grateful to receive such a tasty gift, and you will be happy you made them too! So tasty!!

2. Try on Some Shoes

Whenever it rains, I am reminded that I need to buy rain boots. So today, my husband took me shoe shopping. Yes, I am aware that he deserves a husband of the year trophy for this! He took me to DSW and a few places in the mall. Our little adventure was fun, relaxing, and also a great way to work on a to-do list item together. I'm still searching for a pair of blush rain boots, but we certainly had fun looking...or at least I did while he listened to his podcast lol. If you do not need shoes, try visiting another shop that stocks items you may need and make an adventure of it!

3. Stop by a Bookstore

My husband and I love visiting book stores. Though I mostly try to find books at the library, I sometimes find myself splurging for a new read. We often go to Barnes & Nobles to read for a while; and sometimes we are lucky enough to sit in their plush chairs! Whether there for an hour or three, we consistently enjoy our visits and appreciate the ever-refreshed varieties available. I would encourage any couple who is bored to visit their local bookstore, pick out a few books, and give each one a two-chapter chance. I have found amazing books this way; and the older titles are generally available at your local library.

4. Visit a Bakery

Do donuts tempt you? If so, move on to the next activity to avoid a serious problem... Just kidding...But maybe not! I don't want it to become a problem for you, but every once in a while it is fun to stop by your local bakery to see if there are any specialty treats you have never had before. I just found out that my local sweet shop sells red velvet donuts; and yes, they are as amazing as they sound. Whether you find baklava or homemade bread, stop by your bakery to try something new if you're looking for an adventure.

5. Let Creativity Flow

On my way home from the shops today, I felt the urge to write; so that is exactly what I am doing right now. Whenever you feel inspired, I encourage you to use that momentum immediately if possible. Take out a pencil, paintbrush, or whatever you use to let your creativity run free. Expressing yourself through art will not only relieve pent up tension but also give you a great feeling of accomplishment!
