I have recently enjoyed reading a series of etiquette books by Jennifer L. Scott. The books have been insightful, cheerful, and challenging. Though challenging may come off in a negative way, I am using it as a positive. The books have personally challenged me to up my game in every area of life. The current book I am enjoying, "At Home with Madame Chic: Becoming a Connoisseur of Daily Life," encourages people to take pride in tasks that they tend to dread. For example, Madam Chic, the heroin of the book, would encourage a person to not only take pride in their career but also in washing the dishes, picking up trash off of ones floor, and soothing a temper-ridden child. These books not only provide lessons in elegance such as how to curate your wardrobe but also provide lessons in how to curate your mind. Yes, we can all read to expand our knowledge through books and music, but do we ever seek to bask in the glory of laundry? What I have taken from the book so far, is that one must at least try. I will try to enjoy unloading the dishwasher, and maybe, with time, joy might emerge. It is not as if I have anything to loose? Am I right?
